Purpose

Computer vision (CV) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) (CV-BIM) are increasingly used in digital construction, yet often operate as standalone tools rather than integrated socio-technological components for resilient, circular, and net-positive built environments. This separation limits data-rich visibility across the construction lifecycle. Therefore, this study explores CV-BIM integration for resilient construction.

Design/methodology/approach

The search was conducted on October 29, 2025, without date restrictions, and included 127 Web of Science journal articles with 4,453 cited references. Citation, co-citation, and co-occurrence analyses used VOSviewer. The bibliometric findings and selected case studies were used to develop a data-rich visibility roadmap.

Findings

Citation analysis identified three themes representing the field's intellectual foundations. Co-citation analysis revealed four clusters characterizing the current knowledge structure, while co-occurrence analysis identified five clusters indicating future research directions. The study also identified six case studies integrating CV and BIM for resilient construction. Accordingly, a data-rich visibility roadmap was developed to support lifecycle visibility and resilient built environment outcomes.

Research limitations/implications

The roadmap informs theory and practice by translating identified gaps into measurable constructs, supporting hypothesis development, and prioritizing empirical validation of CV-BIM integration.

Originality/value

This study synthesizes fragmented CV-BIM research into a resilience-oriented roadmap for data-rich, circular, and net-positive built environments.
