Infant formula and follow-on formula

The EC has adopted Directive 1999/50/EC, which amends Directive 91/321/EEC. This directive sets a maximum limit of 0.01mg/kg for individual pesticides in infant formula and follow-on formula, ready for consumption. The UK is required to introduce national measures to implement this rule by 30 June 2000. Trade in non-compliant products will be prohibited from 1 July 2002. The JFSSG has issued draft regulations for consultation. The regulations would only apply to England,but similar separate legislation is being developed for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
