Introduction
This journal issue reports papers presented at a conference on Food Sustainability: Diverging Implications, held at Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam in February 2003.
Food sustainability has, over recent decades, emerged as an important international issue with social, moral, scientific, economic and political implications. The themes, presented at the conference and covered in selected papers in the Journal, cover food security, food safety and good governance.
