MR RICHARDSON (Paper 28): The intent of this
presentation is to characterize the design, manu‐
facturing and construction processes involved in
US nuclear power plant class 1 piping installa‐
tion.
To appreciate the extent of the work involved in a standardized 1100 MW(e) PWR, about 100 000 linear feet of prefabricated piping size 2\ in. and above, and a further 100 000 linear feet of 2 in. and under site routed piping and tubing are involved for the total plant. About 40-45% of this quantity is categorized safety related requiring conformance with ASME B & PV code, section III.
From the design, manufacturing and construc‐ tion standpoint this represents about 10 000‐ 12 000 individual piping pieces or spools which require identification, design, stress analysis and determining types of weId-ends for construc‐ tion. The total piping contract for prefabricated piping will be placed with a single vendor based on the A-Es design specification for furnish only.
