The use of upstream asphaltic concrete membranes as the sealing element on embankment dams has been limited to six dams in the UK. This paper reviews the performance of Colliford and Roadford dams, the two most recently constructed and compares their performance with other asphaltic membrane dams in the UK and Eire. Although constructed more than 10 years ago, there have been relatively few problems with the embankments or upstream asphaltic membranes.
