Double-layer space frames are one of the conventional kinds of space structures, which have a wide range of application in the construction industry. This type of space frame can be designed and constructed in various textural patterns, and the evaluation of their efficiency is essential and necessary.

In this research seven kinds of conventional double-layer space frames with different grid patterns have been investigated. The influence of some of the important parameters such as: span to depth ratio, the number and location of peripheral support systems and type of connections (whether they are rigid or hinged) on the behaviour, weight and the stiffness of different grid patterns were determined and compared. In order to obtain acceptable results, in addition to providing the required subroutines, 116 type of double-layer space frames have been analysed and designed.
