ASR expansion in mortar specimens made with graded glass cullet originating from waste containers was examined employing both the mortar-bar test method (JIS A 1146) and the rapid test method (JIS A 1804). The pessimum size was 0.6mm regardless of the test method, except for green cullet. The ASR expansion increased according to the glass cullet content. However, expansion was not linearly proportional to glass content. At the same time, mixed size cullet caused larger expansion than that estimated from the expansion of each single size cullet multiplied by the dosage. Extrapolating the result, authors suggest that the maximum dosage where ASR expansion remains below 0.1% is about 10% even for mortar specimen made of mixed-size clear glass cullet.
