III Practice in the application of design detail for diaphragm walls and contiguous piling

Since the Conference on Diaphragm Walls and Anchorages, held in September 1974, many new construction projects have been carried out and some research has been undertaken relating to the subjects of this conference. The experiences gained therefrom have generally been reported at local levels.

At the recent European Conference on Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering held in Vienna in March 1976, some 8 papers on diaphragm walling alone were presented from various countries, most of them dealing with subjects related to the practice and detailed design applications of this technique. The interest so exhibited may well be recognized as a sign of the continued development of this construction technique which is by now well established in most parts of the world.
