Early in 1976 the Metro Joint Venture comprising Dragages (SFEDTP),

Hochtief A. G., Gammon (H.K.) Ltd. and Sentab were awarded Contract 106

of the Hong Kong Mass Transit Railway for the design and construction of

three stations on the southern extension of the railway on Hong Kong Island.

In March 1976 Ove Arup & Partners were commissioned by the Joint

Venture to carry out the design and to provide geotechnical advice on

matters arising from the construction of the three stations.

In August 1976 a diaphragm wall test panel was excavated by the Bachy

Soletanche Group on the site of the demolished cricket club pavilion which
