Abstract
Are presented results of confined compression and characterization tests performed on samples of Municipal Solid Waste, MSW, coming from Metropolitan Center Sanitary Landfill (Salvador/Brazil), collected in the disposal front (new residue) and in landfill points having 4 years since disposal. It is showed that time since disposal tends to reduct the relative amount of paper/cardboard in the MSW, whereas it tends to increase the MSW paste percentage. On the contrary, the amount of paste organic content represents about 9.9% of total MSW mass after 4 years since disposal, just 60% of the initial value (16.4%). It were obtained values of Cα around 0.0286 and average values of C’α, [C’α = Cα/(1+eo)] of about 0.0114. MSW primary compression index, Cc, showed to be depend of the MSW initial void ratio.
