Automation and manufacturing-led construction promise to have a significant impact on the construction and related industries, including professional services and asset management, but it can be difficult to know where to start with technology adoption or new business model development. This chapter presents original research on the impact different technologies and manufacturing-led approaches can have on the automation of existing tasks within relevant occupations spanning the lifecycle of assets. It compares the types of tasks that are most likely to be automated, and provides detailed examples of the potential impact on three occupations and discusses the importance of considering workforce wellbeing when transforming to a more automated model.
