This chapter begins by explaining the difference between MMC, manufacturing-led construction, industrialised construction and an industrialised built environment. It identifies the impact that each can have on the delivery of interventions into the built environment, but also on the relationships between different parties and the additional value that can be created, and provides examples of how they have been implemented. It also explores the potential impact of automation on the construction industry, and how automation and manufacturing-led construction can be aligned to maximise the value that they can deliver to both clients and supply chains.
