Building on previous chapters that have described the importance of clearly defining requirements and desired outcomes, this chapter explores how different pre-manufacturing models can be used to deliver those. It discusses the implications of different integration models, and how solutions can start small and scale rather than relying on significant fixed assets from the start. The concept of pre-manufactured value and other approaches to assessing manufactured content is explained, as is the impact of how a solution is manufactured, not simply where it is produced. Primary research is provided on the level of automation that is likely to be achieved for different levels of manufacturing capability across the different categories of the Government's MMC Framework.
