The importance of comprehensive data sets and on-going monitoring was emphasised.
A general view was expressed that rejuvenation of the developed coast was one method of reducing pressure on the undeveloped coast, although one speaker held that this did not necessarily follow. Public relations were clearly important in the enhancement of developed areas as many NIMBYs (not in my back yard) did not wish to lose the heritage of their recent past. Better schemes were held to have preserved appropriate features and it was suggested that the local plan was the most suitable forum for any battles, for which the PPG should set a positive framework.
