A. HOPKINSON, AEE, Winfrith Since writing the paper, Specification, imple mentation and use of a fast reactor power stat ion simulator1, the following paper by F.P. Demello and R.J. Mills has come to our notice: Specifying training simulators for power plant operators. Instrument Society of America. 15th Power Instrumentation Symposium, Pittsburgh 1972.

This should be read by anyone concerned with the specification or production of a simulator.

Paragraph 41 of the paper mentions two deficien cies in the current state of the simulator. The first of these has now been corrected, a cold shutdown initial condition is now available. In simulating cold startups it has been found desirable to speed up the warm-up of the plant by increasing the pumps1 contribution to heat ing by altering the appropriate constants in the model. This makes it possible to complete the startup in one training session. The second de ficiency, in the method of producing display for mats has been overcome by producing a display compiler (see paragraph 41). The compiler for most sorts of displays is now working and the rest should be working in the next few weeks.
