Question – Andrew Rouse, Environment Agency: What where the costs of the modelling and what where the savings overall on the delivery of the works?
Answer – Catherine Vincent: The modelling costs for the VR were approximately £20k, to model this main package of a £20mil+ project. This cost was split between the contractor and ourselves as the designer, as this was a development opportunity for both. The cost of modelling in VR has reduced since this early-stage project – modelled in 2018. The main saving was that the works finished 3 months ahead of schedule. We acknowledge this was also aided by programming efficiencies and other savings. However, the ability to communicate well to all stakeholders through VR was invaluable to the process.
