Many aspects of this test are still—or again—controversially discussed. With growing knowledge the usefulness of the test becomes even more questionable. The amount of water absorption does not yield a reliable coefficient describing the permeability of a rock mass, large amounts do not necessarily indicate a permeable rock. This contribution comments on the most important aspects and discusses the limitation and the value of the test which becomes more helpful to examine the deformability and groutability of the rock.
