Humberside County Council came into being in 1974. At that time, one suspects, like many other counties, the County had very few bridge records. This paper describes how the Bridge Register was set up. A large proportion of the County's Bridges were of brick arch construction - many in poor condition. The process of upgrading these structures forms a major part of the paper.
