This paper represents a case study of a flood risk reduction and habitat creation scheme in the Tees estuary, North East England. The scheme was developed as part of the Tees Tidal Flood Risk Management Strategy (TTFRMS) to provide a sustainable, cost effective plan for managing flood risk within the Tees Estuary alongside the national and internationally sensitive habitats within the study area.

The paper deals with challenges and sustainable solutions adopted to reduce flood risk to the community and industry, promote economic benefits, construction challenges face, the need to protect and improve environmental habitat and provide benefits to the community.
