This chapter explores the options available to a site designer when a jetty or platform is required. It highlights the materials and design approaches possible and the importance of obtaining good information about the expected loadings. The chapter also highlights the importance of good communication between the site team and the designer.
In marine and river temporary works terms, a plant platform is a structure constructed at the edge of a watercourse to allow the loading and offloading of materials, plant and personnel from a vessel. A plant platform would be necessary where the existing bank is not considered strong enough to withstand the plant loadings.
