The capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) have advanced tremendously in the past decade, and the transformative power of this technology is increasingly being recognized. Applications of AI and ML are affecting all sectors of our economy including health care, retail, education, manufacturing, and energy. For example, in the banking industry, AI and ML are leveraged to make decisions about potential fraudulent financial transactions, such as fraudulent credit card transactions, via intelligent analysis of vast amounts of data collected by companies to identify fraudulent activity as well as activity that requires additional investigation. In the transportation sector, AI and ML are used to analyze vast data from inputs such as cameras and sensors integrated into automobiles along with geographic positioning data to allow autonomous vehicles to make decisions including speed, lane location, and collision avoidance.
