The main purpose of this study was to determine the overall level of work stress among 1,209 secondary school teachers in the State of Malacca, Malaysia. Correlates of their work stress levels and subgroup differences were also investigated. Teachers in this study rated their work stress level as moderate overall. The following subgroups reported relatively higher stress levels: those between 31 and 40 years old, teachers who had been teaching for 15 years or less, arts teachers, those earning RM2,000 (1 U.S.$ = RM3.80) or less, and those possessing master’s degrees.
