On March 1, 2020, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced that the first two cases of coronavirus had been detected in the state of Florida—one in the county in which I live, and one in the county of my employer. At the time, COVID-19, as it came to be called, was a little-known phenomenon for many of us. It had been the subject of much speculation, and even panic, but what was largely missing from the consideration up until this point was the impact this virus would have on educator preparation programs throughout the nation and the state of Florida.
The Florida Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (FACTE) is in many ways the unified voice of teacher education in that state of Florida as a state affiliate of the national American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. FACTE’s purposes are outlined on their website:
