The UK's first Sausage and Potato Festival was a spectacular success –putting Lincoln on the map for hosting the best “Bangers and Mash”event of the year!
The festival on Saturday united celebrity and Michelin star chefs, with food lovers across the UK and by the end of the day, over 8,000 people visited the festival at Lincoln Castle.
Lydia Rusling from Tastes of Lincolnshire said: “The amount of visitors we had to the festival was over 8,000”.
However, the festival wasn't all about eating. It was also a chance to educate visitors about the most popular vegetable grown and eaten in the UK.
Katie Hewit, Science Matters brought a whole new meaning to Potato Power.“We've been insulating jacket potatoes with heat sensitive paper and making batteries out of them to power small light bulbs. There have been quite a few jokes from the adults about saving electricity by using potato power– especially with the current energy bills”.
Angie Clay from Lincoln Castle said “Not only did the festival put Lincolnshire on the map as one of the biggest potato producers in the UK; it also opened the doors to one of its historic assets. The Castle is the perfect venue to host popular events like this – and it's an ideal opportunity to showcase Lincoln to visitors across the whole of the UK”.
The Tastes of Lincolnshire initiative is a Lincolnshire County Council/European Union funded project encouraging people to choose local foods and drink.
