Instead of focusing on testing, content, and accountability, teacher education programs should be helping preservice teachers focus on the heart and soul of teaching. Thus, helping them as they continue their spiritual journey of becoming a teacher. Although there are many ways that teacher educators can support preservice teachers, in this chapter, we argue that service-learning, with its emphasis on social responsibility, is a promising approach.
