This chapter explores how the edTPA (Teacher Performance Assessment) reproduces hegemonic practices in teacher education. These practices that articulate whiteness pervade the edTPA teacher certification examination. As a result, educational, economic, political, and social inequities continue to be reinforced in our K–12 schools. Moreover, a closer examination of the historical emergence and the current state of the edTPA suggests that the edTPA not only reinforces the normal school model and white, European educational practices, but has also reinforced neoliberal agendas that minimize agency in teacher education preparation programs.
