The purpose of this chapter is to explore notions of pedagogy as inferred from comments that teachers made when viewing video recordings of their own and other teachers’ lessons. In this chapter, one case of three teachers from Western Canada is explored. This group of teachers placed a great deal of emphasis on engagement. That emphasis emerged from their discussions about the strategies they use in their practice, their conceptions of their role as teacher, and their intentions for their students. Their conversations about engagement are explored in relation to conceptions of pedagogy offered in the literature, and in relation to the broader discourse in education in their region.
