Ramsden dam is an earthfill dam some 25m high with a puddle clay core. It is estimated that the crest has settled more than lm since construction in 1883. Measurements have shown that long term settlement is largely due to drawdown of the reservoir. The net crest settlement due to a cycle of drawdown and impounding was affected critically by the magnitude of the drawdown. Settlements occurred throughout the full depth of the core.
