It has for some time been apparent that there is little consistency of approach in the United Kingdom to the question of low level outlet capacity or valve arrangements. The author suggests a new formula for low level outlet capacity for higher category earthfill dams in the United Kingdom which may also be of use for small reservoirs with earthfill dams overseas. The question of fitting upstream valves and/or lining of pipes is also discussed.
