ABSTRACT
In order to purify seawater, filter units consisting of beach sand and steel slag were developed. The filter units were installed on a barge which was being used for land reclamation from sea. Thirty eight filter units (1.5 m × 3.6 m) were used to purify seawater in a small bay as demonstration. The case study showed that the purification capacity is about 30 m/day. The quality of purified seawater can be satisfied in terms of SS, COD, pH, DO, etc. This technique can be used in various kinds of marine works, including measure of dredging, anti-red tide and anti-blue tide.
