In reflecting on the first year as a new professor who was hired to teach in the field, there has been tremendous satisfaction (along with anxiety) that has been a part of a first-year assignment to a professional development school (PDS). In presenting this chapter, it is hoped that those who are newly hired for tenure and/or clinical work in mostly field-based positions will be able to learn from a number of initial experiences. This study also addresses points for those who are already in established PDSs to help conceptualize their parts in initiating a new professor onto a PDS team.
