This chapter corresponds to Annex B in EN 1994-1-1, which has the following clauses.

Annex B presents standard tests for shear connectors and composite floor slabs. These tests were introduced in the original 1985 edition of Eurocode 4, have been modified in subsequent ENV and EN versions, and were included in the absence of guidelines for European Technical Assessments (ETAs). As the tests in Annex B have now been widely adopted, and ETAs can rely on the information presented, this annex, previously Informative, is now Normative.

An objective of standard tests is to provide guidance to designers in situations where calculation models are not sufficient. This commonly occurs for two components of composite structures: shear connectors and profiled steel sheeting. Their existing design rules are based mainly on test data obtained over many decades, including the use of various procedures and types of test specimen for which there was no international standard. The tests determine the shearing deformation caused by longitudinal shear force applied across an interface between the steel and concrete components of a composite member.
