This chapter corresponds to Annex J of EN 1994-1-1, which has the following clauses.
The use of precast concrete slabs was not within the scope of EN 1994-1-1:2004. Clause 8 of EN 1994-2:2005, ‘Precast concrete slabs in composite bridges’ (a single page) has, in practice, also been used for buildings. Although the new ten-page Annex J is limited to buildings, parts of it could be applied for other structures without fatigue loading.
Annex J covers solid slabs with precast concrete permanent formwork, and hollow-core slabs with or without concrete topping. Subjects outside its scope include beams with regions of hogging bending, a non-uniform steel section, lightweight-aggregate concrete, and loading with repetition sufficient to require fatigue verification. Example 19.1 includes the use of hollow-core slabs in a shallow floor structure.
