This chapter provides a brief history of the context for education and special education as a field of study in the Arabian Gulf State of Qatar. A review of many special education research efforts conducted in Qatar is arranged into groups of studies that include teachers of children with special needs, inclusion of children with special needs, the diagnostic and evaluation process, counseling needs for children with special needs and their families, and the quality of services being provided to children with special needs. Studies specific to certain categorical areas of special education are grouped together and include children with intellectual disabilities, learning difficulties, autism, speech and language difficulties, and hearing impairments. The chapter concludes with some implications for advancing research in special education in Qatar in the future.
