In this chapter, we will explore the next steps for small to medium enterprises (SMEs), practitioners and academic researchers to evolve their understanding of technology solutions to move past technological performativity. The term technological performativity, in the context of this handbook, is used to situate the technical and sociological terminology. The discussion of the ‘State of Technology’ suggests the way in which technology is measured for efficiency and revenue limits the impact that technological solutions are yet to have in society.
This chapter is positioned to align the concepts and practical steps to identify possible actions that can have a positive impact on an organisation. This is not an exhaustive discussion about moving forward with technology solutions; however, it brings together the introductory concepts with next steps and some of these suggestions may in part support a query or barrier that you or your organisation may be facing.
