Abstract
With globalization, technology has become a pervasive force impacting various spheres of human life. In the educational sector in particular, there is a constant evolution of processes and methods that are transforming the teaching-learning process. The application of artificial intelligence (AI) in education is a theme that has been gaining prominence in the educational environment. Its applications are being analyzed and applied both inside and outside the higher education classroom. This raises the following question: What is the state of the art and impact of AI-based adaptive learning systems in education? To answer this question, the following objective was proposed: to investigate the impact of AI-based adaptive learning systems in education. For this purpose, a bibliographic search was carried out in the Web of Science database. It is concluded that AI applications are becoming increasingly popular in the education sector. They can be used to create personalized learning experiences for students, develop programmes that build teachers’ capacities and help them manage their workloads and provide new insights into how students learn.
