The presence of an academic integrity policy is an indication of an institution's acknowledgment of the importance of academic integrity. Bretag et al. (2011a) explain that an institution's approach to academic integrity is determined by how it is defined and described in policy. Yankova (2024) notes that academic integrity policies vary globally as they tend to reflect the uniqueness of each cultural, societal and educational context. Within each institution, administrators are responsible for creating and disseminating a clearly written academic integrity policy (Kier & Ives, 2022). Amigud and Pell (2020) agree, and further state, ‘institutions are tasked with a responsibility to establish policies that are clear, coherent and effective in regulating both student and staff conduct, relevant to societal values, consistent with fiduciary responsibility, and in-line with international practices’ (p. 12).
