As the son of a share-cropper, Jimmy Collins was well acquainted with hard work. Spending long days picking cotton in the sweltering Georgia heat was a normal way of life for the 10-year-old dreamer. As he sat on the front porch of their modest farm home, shirt and overalls drenched with sweat from a day’s work in the fields, he looked on as the men and women filed past, many of whom were relatives, slowly making their way to their own homes for a meager meal and a night’s rest only to awaken the next day to pursue the same monotonous, backbreaking chore. As he watched, a unique thought began to germinate in his mind. Jimmy realized that his desire for a successful and fulfilling life was never going to be realized by working in these fields. His dream was to have a job that required wearing pressed white shirts, neck ties, suit pants, and leather dress shoes. But that job might as well have been on the moon. How in the world was he possibly going to see his dream come true? He needed something to happen. He needed something to change.
