Some existing risk ranking schemes for potentially contaminated land are reviewed and compared to a client specific ranking scheme that was developed to prioritise a large number of sites for further action. The risk ranking schemes are discussed in the context of consistency, sensitivity, the level of available data and their ability to be utilised within an overall management strategy for dealing with risk.
