Artificial Intelligence. The Internet of Things. Augmented Reality. These terms, or rather these technologies, were science fiction to most of us 30 years ago. Today they are realities. Commonly understood as the fourth industrial revolution, these innovations move human existence from living alongside technology to living in it, and sometimes it living in us. These, and other technologies that produce and analyze enormous quantities of data, and integrate information of all kinds to deliver immersive, integrated, and rich media experiences, already are and will continue to have even greater impact on us all. They are changing our daily lives, whether it is personalized ads, the timing of street lights, how we track our heart rates and calorie intake, or how we secure a taxi. Cities, businesses, governments, non-profit organizations, and educational institutions recognize this technological revolution as a game-changer; an opportunity to address significant challenges such as climate change, public transportation, public safety, healthcare, and resource management. They recognize that society in its broadest sense requires a huge human capacity change that is complex and uncertain.
