Software Project management is planning, organising and managing resources so as to meet the specific objectives and goals of the software project and meet the successful completion of the project. Software Project management constitutes the knowledge, techniques and tools required to manage software development.

A project is an endeavour with finite specified start and completion dates. A project is worked upon to create any product or service to bring about beneficial change or added value. The main challenge of project management is to reach all of the project goals and objectives while keeping in mind the project constraints. There are three main constraints for any project scope, time and budget. Along with these another even more ambitious challenge is to optimise usages of all the resources so as to meet predefined goal and objectives. A project is a set of activities that use resources (people, materials, money, space time, etc.) to achieve the project predefined goals and objectives.
