There has been an incredible growth in technology development over the last two or three decades in particular, and there promises to be significantly more over the years ahead. Whilst the construction industry is still one of the least digitised, it is expected to change over the next decade, along with related industries such as professional services and asset management. This chapter discusses a wide range of technologies that can lead to the automation of tasks and manufacturing of assets, and presents a forecast for technology adoption. This analysis is used to forecast future levels of automation across the industry by 2035, which is presented in later chapters.
