First page of Corporate Climate and Glass Ceiling in the Hospitality Industry: The Women's Point of View

Despite the fact that over the last decades the participation of women in international employment has increased (Pinar, McCuddy, Birkan, & Kozak, 2011), gender remains a crucial parameter in the workplace. As a result, women often face horizontal and vertical discriminations (Segovia-Perez, Figueroa-Domecq, Fuentes-Moraleda, & Munoz-Mazon, 2019) that limit their abilities to reach higher positions in the hierarchy. The above discriminations are materialised in different forms related both to the level of hierarchy positions occupied and to the level of remuneration paid. They are attributed to various reasons, such as the way of perceiving women's employment and the lower evaluation of female work compared to male work (even in similar working positions), the existence of work stereotypes, the occupation of working positions requiring little specialisation by women, the identification of specific jobs and higher levels of responsibility with a particular gender and – of course – the lower percentage of women in managerial positions (Baum, 2013).
