This chapter focuses on the development of military leaders who are inclusive and capable of forging a cohesive coalition command structure in multinational military operations. Multinational military operations require military leaders to develop an inclusive organizational structure that affords coalition partners the opportunity to participate equally in command decision-making processes. Such partner participation further supports the development of a command with unity of purpose and unity of command that will ensure military operational success.

The chapter examines some of the challenges associated with becoming an effective leader of multinational military teams. Among these, military leaders are tasked to develop a coalition team that works together in a collaborative and cooperative manner. Given the complexities of cultural diversity among the disparate military forces and civilian organizations, inclusivity plays a pivotal role in leadership effectiveness. This chapter will explore the importance of establishing rapport and building relationships based on respect and trust. Inclusive leaders empower those under their command and facilitate the team’s mission success. Global security requires leaders to be effective in establishing teams with unity of command. This discussion will highlight the path to achieving these objectives.
