“MEASUREMENTS OF LOADS IN SCAFFOLDING”

Mr. M.J. Dill, John Laing Research and Development Ltd.

Reported by Mr. D.H. Mitchell, C.E.G.B, .(Berkeley Nuclear Laboratories)

Mr. R.J. Pine (Golder Hoek 4 Associates Ltd.) asked whether any other measuring devices had been considered, a clamp-on load transducer, for example.

Mr. Dill said that several Other devices had been considered, and were detailed in the paper, including a clamp-on devioe used between the U head and top of the scaffold tube. The main problem involved with this type of work was knowing beforehand exactly where the measurements were to be made and liaising with the contractor so that the measuring system could be installed as the scaffolding was being erected.
