Failures of resin applications in the construction industry are well known. Some of these have been of major dimensions and have resulted in a cautious attitude in many engineers and specifying authorities.
Notable among these were the resin based floor screeds of approximately ten years ago, and in recent
years, epoxy resin bridge expansion joint nosings.
The reasons for the failures are many. Over-enthusiastic selling by the formulator, lack of experience in design with the materials on the part of the engineer and insufficient knowledge on the part of the applicator, coupled with poor labour training and supervision in some cases.
