Investigation was carried out to examine the practical applications of recycled aggregate concrete as cast-in-place concrete pile. Two types of recycled aggregate concrete were produced using real ready-mixed concrete plant. Recycled coarse and fine aggregates (RG-RS) and in some cases recycled coarse aggregate and natural sand (RG-NS) were used in concrete production. Recycled aggregate concretes were transported by truck agitator from the concrete plant to work site. On site, two kinds of cast-in-place pile using recycled aggregate concrete (RGRS and RG-NS) were placed as on applied cast-in-place concrete pile by tremie process.
The results showed that slump loss and loss of air content were slightly affected by the use of recycled aggregate in concrete mixes during transportation and placing, about one hour. The execution work of cast-in-place concrete pile made of recycled aggregate concrete were approximately the same as those with natural aggregate concrete. The compressive strength of pile made with recycled aggregate concrete were found to be same as that of corresponding natural aggregate concrete.
