Ashiya Abdool Satar is a Lecturer for undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Department of Communication Science at the University of South Africa (Unisa) since 2013. She was previously a Secondary School Educator in the Languages and the Social Sciences at a South African Public School. Her interests in equity and democracy led her to supervise and facilitate learners in a simulated session of the United Nations Assembly at the legislature in the North West province of South Africa, focusing on the global refugee crisis. She has diverse research interests that mirror her educational pursuits in the areas of organizational communication, media studies, and Open Distance and e-Learning in the higher education sector. Ashiya has presented papers at several international conferences and she is currently involved in projects focusing on active youth citizenship, social justice, and inclusive education and is a co-editor of an upcoming book related to social media theory and research.
