Abstract
The objective of the study is to uncover the erstwhile literature on metaverse and its applications in the Supply Chain Management (SCM) field through a systematic literature review (SLR), identify the emerging themes, and suggest areas of future research.
The study was based on a SLR using the PRISMA technique to examine the applications of the metaverse in SCM.
The current study identifies that most of the studies in this area are qualitative. The focus of these studies varies from the issues and challenges related to implementing digital technology in supply chain operations. The SLR presents previous findings and explores areas that still need to be well-researched, proposing ideas for future researchers to explore through empirical studies.
The study offers perspectives to practitioners on the applications of metaverse and similar emerging technologies in optimizing the supply chain. It also provides possible challenges that may arise due to the adoption of this technology and its benefits.
The study is original and attempts to identify the themes emerging in the field of metaverse and its application in SCM. It explores the potential benefits and challenges associated with the application of this emerging technology in SCM function.
