MR A. MELLOR, Halcrow Fox & Associates In view of the difficult operating conditions for conventional buses in Kenya, described in Paper 7, Mr Barrett might consider whether it would be worthwhile for the bus company to become involved in renting paratransit vehicles. This would appear to be a profitable activity, to carry a relatively low financial risk and to fulfil the company's financial objectives.

MR I. JENKINS, Independent Consultant As we look at the interaction between public and private transport, it is worth remembering that private transport includes not just 'conventional' forms such as private cars, but also an 'organised' form such as schools and works bus services. These offer advantages to the user over public transport, and, unlike private cars, cause minimal traffic congestion.
